Regularly scheduled, weekly safety meetings make sense: they’re a simple way to help prevent loss by reaching those who have the most to gain – and the most to lose – by addressing potential safety issues before they become problems. But why a meeting? Employee meetings:

  • Encourage safety awareness by fostering an exchange of ideas in an environment where they’re not so easily ignored.
  • Get employees actively involved, demand feedback and get everyone thinking about safety.
  • Motivate employees to follow safety procedures and are ideal for demonstrating the proper use of equipment and techniques.
  • Can nip safety hazards in the bud by pinpointing minor hazards before an accident happens.
  • Introduce workers to new safety rules, equipment and preventive practices and also reinforce existing rules, policies and procedures – along with the reasons behind them.
  • Provide vital information on accident causes and types, what the company is doing to prevent them and the role employees play in that prevention.
